Lexington
Lexington is the County Seat of Holmes County. It is named in honor of David Holmes, the first governor of Mississippi. Our interest here is in the fact that in the 1930s-1940s it was the nearest town of any size to the complex of cotton plantations clustered around the community of Mileston, Mississippi (Marcella, Good Hope, Mileston, Refuge). And, in October 1939, Marion Post Wolcott spent a Saturday afternoon there with her busy camera.
